Riga - Latvia

Latvia is one of the Baltic States and a member of the European Union. It has strong links with its other Baltic and Scandinavian neighbours. Latvia is a small country but has a rich historical and cultural heritage. The capital is Riga, noted for its fine architecture and is reported to have the finest collection of Art Nouveau buildings in Europe. After gaining independence in 1991, Riga has won UNESCO World Heritage Site designation and opened up to mass tourism with the advent of budget air travel.
